How many pairs of shoes do you own? Imagine if you had no shoes. Imagine coming to school barefoot? Or going to work barefoot? Many people around our world have no shoes! David Suzuki school has just challenged us to a contest to see who can raise more SHOES to send to Haiti. We have accepted the challenge!! Please send any gently used shoes to Mrs. Carter in the library. We hope to line the tops of our bookcase with 100s of shoes. This is a unique program that provides our kindergarten students the opportunity to help less fortunate children in third world countries. In the past, our shoe boxes have gone to Central and South America. Our children will stuff and decorate the boxes themselves at school with teacher guidance. The gift items will go to children of the same age. Our grade 1 teachers and classes collect gently used coats and winter wear to donate to local children who are in need of clothes to keep them warm all winter :) |
